This easy TandemEZ Tandem e-bike tour meanders through Historic Downtown Salem, showcasing historic, intriguing, and visitor-friendly sites. We begin at the Gilbert House Children’s Museum, riding through the Grant Neighborhood to the Capitol Mall, the WWII Memorial, Willamette University, and the State Capitol. We will visit the Willamette Heritage Center, the home of Missionary Jason Lee, founder of Salem and Willamette University. We will also take in the Deepwood Estate and Bush House Gardens before a ride along Pringle Creek. Our journey continues with a three-block bike walk through downtown to view architecture and hear intriguing underground stories. We will then cross the unique Taco Bridge, exploring Minto-Brown Park, one of our nation’s largest Urban parks.
Prices start at $300 per pair on our bicycle built for two, and the per-head price decreases as more join in! Any age over 4’10” (147cm) is welcome. Each Captain must be 18 or older. Guaranteed Departure with only two participants! Let’s Ride Capitol History!
Itinerary in Brief:
11-15 miles cycling, 2.5 – 3 hours total time with talks, walks, and cycling
Tues – Sat May 15- Oct 15
- After getting everyone fit on their TandemEZ and practicing a few turns, we are off!
- From the Gilbert House Children’s Museum, we will cycle to the North end of the Capitol Mall to view historical homes.
- Cycling to our first view of the Capitol with its Cherry Tree lanes
- Capitol, the WWII and Vietnam War Memorials
- Cycling through Willamette University and its water features to Willamette Heritage Center
- 30 minutes walking the grounds of the Heritage Center, the Mill, and historic homes (Entrance included)*
- Cycling on to Deepwood Museum Gardens for a short visit to the Garden
- On to nearby Bush Park and Rose Gardens
- Cycle along Pringle Creek toward downtown
- A Walk through downtown with our bikes, with stops of interest until we enter Riverfront Park
- We start cycling again through the park, crossing the Taco bridge into the Minto-Brown Urban Park
- Looping back to our starting point at the Children’s Museum to end a great day.
* Thurs – Sat participants. We have an option to replace the walk through of the Willamette Heritage Center with more cycling at the end. We can cycle an additional 4 miles round trip and go to the Minto Growers Nursery and Food Cart. Here, the first drink is on us. Lunch is also available if you want it.
